Manual Lymph
Drainage of Dallas Manual lymph
drainage massage is a massage technique developed by a Danish medical doctor, E. Vodder and his wife, Estrid in 1932. The discovered and developed a new
branch of medicine called Lymphology. They created this primarily to
treat patients with swollen necks or limbs due to poor lymph flow.
Manual Lymph drainage massage is also used post-surgical edema, post traumatic edema,
general detoxification, relaxation and other conditions by pumping and
stretching the lymphatic system.
The strokes applied
in manual lymph drainage massage are intended to stimulate the movement of the
lymphatic fluids in order to assist the body in cleansing. This is a
gentle, rhythmical technique along the lymphatic vessels and surrounding
tissues to help the flow of lymph toward the heart. It cleanses the connective tissue of
inflammatory materials and toxins, enhances the activity of the immune system,
reduces pain and lower the activity of the sympathetic nervous system. The
lymph system is responsible for carrying excess water, proteins and wastes
from the connective tissue back to the blood stream. During the
transportation process, the lymph is cleaned, filtered and concentrated.
Many immune reactions occur in the lymph nodes. If the pathways become
congested, blocked, damaged or severed, then fluids and wastes can build up in
the connective tissue leading to swelling. Eventually cell pathology may
begin if there is damage in the connective tissue (e.g. scar tissue or chronic
inflammation), then the lymph vessel system must transport the damaged cells,
inflammatory products and toxins away from the area. The quicker this
can happen, the faster recovery will be. Manual Lymph Drainage Massage
has best results on edema with compression garments afterward the massage.
